Shirley has over 30 years of service with Hudbay Minerals and is currently the Manager, Environment and Systems.
Shirley has held a key, on-going role within the management system for the last 18 years. That role has a strong focus on legal and other requirements, including understanding existing and changing regulations, associated standards and how to ensure that the company complies with these requirements. Relevant research and development opportunities occasionally overlap with changing expectations.
As the long-serving chair of the Initiative Leaders team responsible for the Mining Association of Canada’s Towards Sustainable Mining initiative, Shirley has helped to continually improve the TSM protocols and the ensuing site-level performance improvements at Hudbay.
Membership on the board of directors of the Auditing Association of Canada as well as an entity known as The Collaboration helps Shirley maintain her skills as an ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 auditor.
