Operational water management expertise coupled with an ability to understand, influence and communicate water risk and performance
Scott provides specialist water management support and expertise across Rio Tinto’s portfolio. He has driven the development and implementation of the water risk framework and represents Rio Tinto on the International Committee of Mines and Metals (ICMM) and Mineral Council of Australia (MCA). Scott is currently the Chair of the ICMM Water Working Group.
With 35 years of experience in the resource sector and specializing in water, Scott’s experience is broad and gained through his involvement in civil engineering, environmental management, geotechnical investigations and design projects associated with coal and metalliferous mines in Australia and Asia. It is from this broad platform that Scott has developed his understanding of operational water management including the complex inter-dependencies with the environment, mine planning, processing, ore body knowledge, tailings, landform reclamation, communities, heritage, legal and closure planning functions.
Scott joined Group HSES as the Practice Lead – Water in 2017. His strong technical base combined with an ability to understand, influence, communicate and be strategic, provides a solid platform to drive and embed effective assessment and communication of Rio Tinto’s water management risk and performance both internally and externally with stakeholders and investors.
Scott holds a Masters of Engineering Studies majoring in water and Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the University of Queensland. In his spare time, Scott likes to surf.
